John is a retired commercial fisherman from the West Coast of British Columbia. He has over 30 years of coastal fishing experience on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, Queen Charlotte Sound, Johnstone Straight and the Straight of Georgia on the East Coast of Vancouver Island.
With John and Overtime Fishing you can enjoy fishing salmon, halibut, cod, prawns or crab during the spring, summer and fall months. John is based in Parksville, B.C. and moors Overtime in Port Alberni B.C. in July and August to enjoy the Sockeye, Coho, and Spring Salmon season in Barclay Sound and off the West Coast of Vancouver Island with Bamfield and Uclulete as ports of call. Overtime is moored at French Creek during June and September to enjoy Salmon, prawn and crab fishing around local hot spots like Lasqueti, Ballenas, Winchelsea and Mistaken Islands, Northwest Bay, Craig Bay, or off Parksville and Qualicum Beaches.
John also trailers Overtime to other areas around Vancouver Island. Trips to Campbell River or Gold River chasing monster Coho or that record setting Tyee Salmon can be arranged. From Gold River John can access excellent fishing grounds near historical Friendly Cove in Nootka Sound.
John's fishing expertise is complemented by his knowledge of Vancouver Island local history and wildlife. John can navigate Overtime within the Broken Islands, along rocky beaches to view sea lions, seals and sea birds or in open waters in search of whales. Whale sightings are common on most days in July and August in Barclay Sound. As an alternative to fishing, John can take you to places on Vancouver Island's coastline that can only be reached by boat. Just a short run from Tofino one can enjoy Hot Springs Cove, Hequiat Harbor and Clayquot Sound.
